Congo, Thrill of the River | Deadliest Journeys
On the legendary Congo River, Commander Aimé is at the helm of a gigantic wooden raft the size of a football field. With his men, he is trying to transport 220 tree trunks linked together by cables from Kisangani to Kinshasa. The raft is also the cheapest means of transport for the most deprived who wish to reach the capital. On board, danger is daily, injuries, sandbanks and storms do not spare the men. For those who take the trails along the river, the conditions are not better. Without public transportation, travelers have no choice but to board freight trucks for an epic journey.

From award-winning filmmaker, Mark Waters comes his debut fully self funded feature film The Salt Trail. This visual gem is a sensory and cinematic masterpiece that takes us on a voyage and delves into the true meaning of surf travel. Journeying through Indonesia from the crowded points of Bali to the isolation of The Mentawai islands, this film captures the joys and the pains of exploration, and the rewards that will stay with you long after the journey is over. It is a film to stir the soul and stoke the wanderlust and, showcasing some deepest, sweetest tube rides, it’ll have you packing your bags for your own Indian Ocean voyage of discovery.
The film was shot in 2011, released in 2012. Then released for free on YouTube 2024. I made the film with nothing but the coins in my pocket, no real plan other than to live in the moment and see what comes out of it. The film was received pretty well and it’s still stoking the soul all these years later:)
I’m almost halfway through my life (39), so I’ve decided to start growing this channel to share some stuff I’ve learned along the way. Please give a sub if you are feeling it. Central Africa, at Your Own Risk | Deadliest Journeys
In the Central African Republic, the civil war has ended up destabilizing a country with an already fragile balance. The wealth of the underground does not trickle down into the demanding daily lives of the inhabitants. Cities are almost cut off from the world, like that of Ngoto.
The road leading there is impassable, ambulances no longer pass, so medical evacuations are done by motorbike. An ordeal for the sick. A race against time or rather a race against death. During the last civil war, many taxis and buses were destroyed or stolen.
Vehicles are lacking, so some bush taxis use livestock trucks. The journey is hellish for the passengers, but everyone maintains their good humor even when it comes to spending a night under the stars.
